  • The “Sentiero del Viandante” (wayfarer trail) is part of the Leonardo's trail going from Milan to Switzerland (240 km). This part of the trail is an interesting route dating back to the Roman period and running along the eastern coast of Lake Como (the so-called branch of Lecco), from Abbadia Lariana to Piantedo (in the Sondrio province), approx. 45 km. The walk will be divided into 4 stages ending in Dervio and it is suitable for families as well.

  • Fitted out in 1989, this walking path offers you the chance to enjoy some peaceful hours deep in the calm of the environment as well as wonderful views on the lake, far away from the overcrowded costal roads. Lake Como panorama has inspired Leonardo da Vinci when painting the background in his worldwide known paintings “Gioconda” and “Last Supper”.

This tour aims at contributing to the economy of small farmers and people living out of the tourist tracks. Varenna, together with Bellagio on the opposite shore of the lake, on the spot where the lake divides into two different branches, is considered to be one of the pearls of Lake Como and is overcrowded with tourists most of the year. This walking tour will allow you to enjoy the quiet of the area on the foot of the Grigna mountain chain and to meet people working in the countryside. This area, in fact, enjoys a favorable microclimate allowing olive trees to be grown; many pollinator gardens have been grown to produce honey. You will enjoy traditional cuisine cooked with local food from fish to cheese in a typical Crotto, a place where culture and history of local food are preserved. The “crotto” was originally a natural cave used to kept and age food; nowadays, these caves have been turned into traditional restaurants where meals are prepared using local products such as cold cuts, cheese from the neighboring alpine pastures, salad from the garden. Moreover, you will meet people living in the cozy hamlets which have been restored in the last few years trying to call back young people.

We are trying to encourage the most environmentally friendly way of travel (walking helps reducing pollution, learning respect for the environment, living and getting to know local people) and at the same time to let you taste and enjoy local flavors and scents.
